Things to consider...

Hello everyone,

It's great to see your work progressing, here are a few points to consider to check you are on the right track. I have also added the mark scheme for the project so please look at this carefully.

1) Many of your blogs are still woefully unloved! Please ensure that you maintain this each week to show a detailed diary of the work you are doing

2) Remember to include a reasonable amount of ANIMATION techniques. A wonderful model of the guildhall with no more animation than a simple camera walkthrough is not enough for a 3rd year animation module

3) Please refer to the mark scheme below to ensure that you are maximising your potential grade for this module:
----------------------------------------------------------
Research and preparation 5%
Standard of modelling and animation 20%
Demonstration of new skills 5%
Contribution to group work 10%
Impact of final video on client and lecturer 20%

Mark from your head model 40%
----------------------------------------------------------

NOTE
There is a 5% mark allocation for showing that you have picked up a new skill. Many of you have been trying new things which is great to see but please do make sure that you CLEARLY state in your blog which processes are new to you.

Handing In Your Head Model - What to include

Hello everyone, please refer to the list below before handing in your work to make sure you don't miss anything out.

1) A CD/DVD containing all workfiles from 3D S Max (Be sensible with this, I don't want to have to open 50 versions of the same file if 1 will suffice!)

2) Also on the disc you must include your topology (psd or image file)

3) A full printout of your blog to show all working of the head model

4) A high quality render of the finished model to see it in all its glory!

Ongoing Brief - Finchingfield Guildhall

The main bulk of your mark for this module comes in the form of an exciting group project which will see you visualise the development of grade 1 listed Guildhall in Finchingfield.

2 - Client led group brief (Weeks 6 – 12) You will work in small groups (3 or 4 students) to the following brief:

Finchingfield Guildhall Project
Introduction
Finchingfield is a small Essex village eight miles north of Great Dunmow. It is a tourist destination and a much-photographed picturesque village. The Guildhall is a 15th Century (Built in 1470); Grade 1 listed building, which for hundreds of years has been the centre of village life. Its historical significance is in its structure and the social role it has played over the centuries. The Guildhall acted as a schoolroom and the upstairs space was used for celebratory feasts on saints’ days. The Reformation passed a law abolishing Guilds and the hall fell into disrepair. John Mildmay then bought it but it is not known how he used the building. Robert Kemp of Spains Hall (a large Elizabethan hall on the outskirts of Finchingfield) repaired and extended the hall and sold it to various village members.

The Finchingfield Trust (a registered charity) is a body, which maintains and manages the Guildhall. The Trust has set up a project team, to manage the restoration of this important property, through fundraising events. In July 2010 the Trust was awarded a large sum of money from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which means that the much needed restoration work can now go ahead. The Ground Floor The library and museum will occupy the ground floor offering an exciting and vibrant interpretation of this ancient settlement. The museum will show off the history of Finchingfield and the surrounding area featuring works by local authors, including Dodie Smith and Norman Lewis. The Upper Floor The original guildhall on the upper floor will be restored offering a dramatic, intimate and historic venue for meetings, exhibitions, performances, classes, conferences and functions.

Your Brief In teams of three or four, using 3D Studio Max, you are to produce an animation to show how the Guildhall would have been utilised over the centuries, this can be specifically i.e. how the Guildhall has impacted on the local population, or how it has been used to support the community or generically, how Guildhalls have been part of British history and how the Guildhall at Finchingfield fits into that broader picture. Or Taking the plans for the redevelopment of the Guildhall, produce an animation to show how the new building works will look when finished, incorporating an architectural walk through of the renovation work, and show how different groups in the community will utilise the restructured hall.

This mark will form 60% of the overall mark.
